ABOUT Jennifer Low

As a Registered Dietitian with a background in psychology, I am deeply interested in the mind-body connection and what drives illness and wellness.

Much of my professional development activities centre on trauma and mind-body connections.

During my studies for my Masters in nutrition and post-grad Diploma in Dietetics, I worked at The Priory on the eating disorders unit, where I had the opportunity to learn first-hand about the challenges of working with patients with serious eating disorders.

The Priory is a beautiful building with a pretty walled garden, but the atmosphere was generally not light or happy. Patients felt most free outside, but even then, the continual pacing around the garden meant they couldn’t fully be present in the quiet, holding space that nature can provide.

One patient, in particular, left a lasting impression on me. She had been in and out of hospitals for many years and her tube feed was keeping her alive. She took me aside one day and said, “whatever you do, don’t be a dietitian in eating disorders, as we all really hate the dietitian.”

I took the challenge!

I have spent the last 15 years working as a specialist eating disorders dietitian and have developed an outdoor nature therapy group that adds additional healing on a body, mind & spiritual level.

My experience in psychology and interest in the mind-body connection has helped me to work effectively with my clients to overcome the emotional and psychological issues that can influence their ability to follow a healthy lifestyle.

I can empathize with the minefield of nutrition information and the lack of time most of us have to focus on our nutritional intake. I work effectively and gently with people to overcome these barriers

It has been a privilege to work with my clients through to full or partial recovery, journeying with them from the “cage” in which they describe themselves to the freedom that living without disordered eating gives.

And I’m pretty sure that none of my clients ‘hate’ me!

At JL Nutrition Clinic, we meet you exactly where you are at – we don’t pressure you into having to reach full recovery.

I understand that you can only manage as much as you can manage at a single point in time.

At the same time, I FULLY and TRULY believe that recovery is possible for everyone.

When you work with us, we promise to support you to find freedom from your disordered eating patterns so that you can nourish yourself fully, without guilt.
