YOU ARE IN THE RIGHT PLACE
Eating disorder treatment through dietetic therapy looks like…
Collaborative & trauma informed
Our approach to treatment is collaborative, and we focus on linking into the healthy part of you.
We provide psycho-education to help you understand the nutrition your body needs, and to fight against the negative thoughts and behaviours associated with your eating disorder.
Working as a team
We focus on behavioural change, however we recognise that there are underlying causes that need to be addressed.
We work alongside psychotherapists and psychologists to ensure that you receive comprehensive care.
If you have an active eating disorder, it’s important to have a therapist or psychiatrist involved in your treatment before consulting with us.
Evidence based dietetic therapy
While we may provide a meal plan, this will always be guided by you and, where appropriate, your family. We also work with you to tackle fear foods and eating disorder specific behaviours that you’ve identified.
To help you make long-lasting changes, we incorporate evidenced based behavioural change therapies such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance commitment therapy (ACT), and solution-focused therapy.
You need a supportive and caring dietitian as part of your recovery team…
We have over 25 years of experience between us working with all types of eating disorders.
We see young people (12 years and over) and adults of all ages. We have a non-judgemental, caring, warm and friendly approach. We are not the scary “diet police” that many people fear!
We will work with the healthy part of you (your wise mind) to make healthier choices & reach full recovery from your eating disorder.
We fully believe that everyone can recover from an eating disorder, and we have been privileged enough to see it happen.
However, sometimes just taking the “next step” in your recovery journey is enough for you for now. We can support you to get to a more healthy place, even if you don’t feel you can recover fully at the moment.
We work with you.
We will not collude with the eating disorder part, but we work through a trauma informed lens. We understand the eating disorder behaviours are there as protection (rightly or wrongly), so we will never force change upon you.
Which is why we’re so pleased to offer:
