YOU ARE IN THE RIGHT PLACE
Eating disorder treatment through dietetic therapy looks like…
Collaborative & trauma informed
Our approach to treatment is collaborative, and we focus on linking into the healthy part of you.
We provide psycho-education to help you understand the nutrition your body needs, helping you to restructure your thoughts around food & nutrition and reduce the behaviours associated with your eating disorder.
We are very aware that when you have had an eating disorder sometimes treatment has been less than collaborative.
We will not collude with your eating disorder, but we also will not force you into anything that you don’t feel ready to manage.
Working as a team
We focus on behaviour change, however we recognise that there are underlying causes that need to be addressed.
We work alongside psychotherapists and psychologists to ensure that you receive comprehensive care.
If you have an active eating disorder, it’s important to have a therapist or psychiatrist involved in your treatment.
To help you make long-lasting changes, we incorporate evidenced based behavioural change therapies such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance commitment therapy (ACT), and solution-focused therapy.
We also work alongside your GP to ensure that your physical health is prioritised.
Evidence based dietetic therapy
While we may provide a meal plan, this will always be guided by you and, where appropriate, your family, but generally having a plan in place can help you to feel contained & safe. We can also work with you to tackle fear foods and any eating disorder specific behaviours.
The type of intervention depends on your personal struggles, and there is no one approach that will suit everyone.
So treatment is very much tailored to YOU.
Our primary goal is always to ensure that any malnutrition (whether through lack of food, or vomiting or laxative/diuretic abuse, or over-exercise) is addressed – preferably through food, but through supplements if necessary.
We are specialist eating disorder dietitians who can work with you on any eating disorder, with or without a formal diagnosis.
Although there are now many individuals providing private nutritional support, a limited number of them possess the necessary qualifications and experience to address eating disorders effectively.
Eating Disorders we treat include:
- Anorexia Nervosa or Atypical Anorexia Nervosa
- Bulimia Nervosa
- Binge-Eating Disorder
- ARFID (Avoidant restrictive food intake disorder)
- OSFED (Other specified feeding or eating disorder)
You need a supportive and caring dietitian as part of your recovery team…
We have over 25 years of experience between us working with all types of eating disorders.
We see young people (12 years and over) and adults of all ages. We have a non-judgemental, caring, warm and friendly approach.
We will work with the healthy part of you (your wise mind) to make healthier choices & reach full recovery from your eating disorder.
We fully believe that everyone can recover from an eating disorder, and we have been privileged enough to see it happen a lot over the years.
However, sometimes just taking the “next step” in your recovery journey is enough for you for now. We can support you to get to a more healthy place, even if you don’t feel you can recover fully at the moment.
We work with you.
We will not collude with the eating disorder part, but we work through a trauma informed lens. We understand the eating disorder behaviours are there as protection (rightly or wrongly), so we will never force change upon you.
However, we fully and truly believe that everyone is able to RECOVER FULLY, and we will always hold that hope for you (even when you can’t).
We can’t wait to work with you.
Helping you to find freedom from your eating disorder, so that you can nourish yourself fully & start to live the life you deserve.
Both Jen and Sue have extensive experience in working with individuals with eating disorders, both in the NHS and privately.
